Re: Milk price

Ah yes, the grapevine. The world's very oldest source of reliable, balanced information. Some people are most unfair in referring to it as idle or manipulative gossip. emoticon

Believe it or not, United have been considering applications from new producers, as well as applications from producers on the mainland for some time. So membership is never static. Any loss of membership is always regrettable, I would have thought.

Looking at it from the other angle, it seems realistic that we should expect the board to direct any 13th payment towards those members who are intending to stay, rather than those who are intending to go. Therefore, more 13th payment for me, and my equity in the United group has risen in the last year too. emoticon I did a quick 12month rolling milk price comparison a month ago between monaghan and united, and I was paid 0.1p less over the year, and that included the two awful summer auctions last year that we all know about. Have YOU heard how many producers Monaghan have lost lately? And with their price seemingly heading towards the bottom of the table, I can imagine that there is probably considerable concern there at the moment. Funny how it never gets aired in public though.

Re: Milk price

Latest NZ auction results are in: http://www.globaldairytrade.info/Results.aspx

A slight increase overall (0.7%), although better for milk powders which is probably more interest to us.

Good to see stabilisation at these levels, bodes well for a secure milk price right through our peak supply months. Very glad prices are not where they were last year. The Annual Report should reveal how many litres left United. I wonder if some of them are wondering if they jumped at exactly the wrong time?

How is everyone else getting on with butterfat, ours is way down as our cows are all out 24/7.

Re: Milk price

A very reasonable (4.9% overall) tickup in the NZ auction today which can't be a bad thing. Especially for powders in the coming months, where strong improvements were recorded.

Is the consensus United will hold fire at 31ppl for June's milk?

Wish I knew. Trying to train myself to not think about it.

In the interest of pure speculation, I'd agree. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see several 31's appear in a row.

What are the others paying?

Re: Milk price

I believe that's a VAT inclusive price, if it is you can strip I believe 5% off it to get a price to compare with ours. If you do that it and convert it to sterling would seem to be about 31ppl which seems encouraging for us in the North?

Re: Milk price

Well a pleasant surprise on the portal today 31.2ppl. But also a price adjustment of 0.1ppl for the period Jul 12 to Mar 13, which was unexpected, but may be the extra Will (I think it was you?) was referring to earlier?

On another good note this month is the first month we have got the full red tractor bonus. Even with shocking butterfats this is our biggest ever cheque.

Grass definitely slowing with us, we could really benefit from a bit of rain in the not too distant future. Winter forage could be tight again this year.

I notice Uniteds detractors have gone remarkably quiet lately.
