More of the same arguments we usually here.

I have trouble getting past the need to milk extra jerseys to get the same total milk. they have not factored in the extra health and mating costs which can add up very quickly. i would have liked to see what they factored in for the start up cost of each additional cow.

Bull calves most years are $180 plus for autumn calves, $120 for spring born.
these price are at 4 days old to the neighbor who specializes in bull beef rearing.
Every time i have sent calves to the auction i have received higher prices.
these prices have been consistent for over 20 years for Holstien-Friesian bull calves.
The current market is $500 for 4 day old surplus Heifer calves.

A lot of the big Jersey herds do not have bull calves arrive at the calf shed alive because they can not recover the cost of the milk that is required to be fed to them for the 4 days before they can be shipped to slaughter or they are to small to be accepted for slaughter.

This is the reason that the Jersey breeders do not put bull calf sales in their trial information.

Here jersey calves are making $7 if they will even take them. In saying that Holsteins not much better. Averaging $25 for 45kg bull calves.

Other thing I have trouble keeping jersey calves alive. They seem to just drop dead pretty often for no reason.
