United keeping it steady as she goes, 33.2ppl base today again, although this is our first full month of getting the Massey Ferguson bonus (aka Red Tractor!) so our base was 33.6ppl emoticon

Why was that? I'm with AML and my Jan price was marginally higher than Dec, only due to more litres I think.

To quote Ian Potter yesterday

"it looks like the EU dairy industry is heading down the drain"

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Re: Milk price

So this month United Dairy Farmers (or Dale Farm NI as they prefer to be known as in the British Dairying league table) have droped their base price to 28ppl.

They now sit at the bottom of said league table and also a similar table which is published in the Irish Farmers Journal. This all comes after promises which were made to disillusioned United producers at open meetings last year, where we were told that they wanted to be paying not only a sustainable price, but a price which placed them in the top 1/3 of both leagues.

All I can say is, it sounded good at the time! It convinced me (and perhaps SOME others) to stay although I'm gald I decided NOT to recind my notice to quit, Lakeland are starting to look VERY enticing!

Lakeland 29p
Glanbia 28.9

The future doesn't look good in Europe is right, but the way these auctions are now United could be ahead of these two in a few months time, no one knows, which isn't good either

Re: Milk price

I had my United field officer out yesterday, trying to convince us to stay with them (our notice period is up at the end of Sept)

I mentioned the promises that were made at last year's open area council meetings regarding the strength of United's price 'going forward' (I detest management jargon!)
He admitted he was as dissapointed with their performance as the members. He also told me he's having a difficult time of it persuading the board to host another round of open meetings this year, he thinks they're afraid!!
