Re: Milk price
We deliberated long and hard back in july before signing a 3 year milk contract with parmalat guarenteeing a minimum average milk price of 42 cents a litre. After stuggling mightily with a 32cent a litre price after the global financial crisis we felt 42 cents would at least cover costs whereas anything under 40 cents would mean borrowing money to make milk and frankly we are over borrowing money just to keep others in a job.
We are actually quite worried where this current freefall will end because none of it is good for farmers and their local communities.Add a dry spring, grain prices rising and it is not looking pretty.Only hope the yanks keep buying hamburger mince because that is the only thing keeping chopper prices up.That and the chinese export heifer market demand.
