Re: Mating on a Snowman?

Thanks Glenlodge. The Epic dam of the Springs is due in about month and looks pretty good. I am excited to see how she calves in. People I speak to all seem positive about Epic.

This family seems to be transmitting good DPR which I am pleased about.

Glenlodge, how is your line of the family doing?

Our branches are still going strong. The Snowman and Planet sisters to your Freddie are both due again in April. Our Supersire from the Snowman is still at 2421 GTPI and due in July to Monterey. We also have three pregs by Mr America Milestone on the way from the Supersire.

We are extremely happy with the members we have from this family. Seven in total, three milking, and all three are VG.

Re: Mating on a Snowman?

My Spring calves dropped a little on proof day as Spring dropped about 60 points on GTPI.

The top heifer is now 2539, good for #38 in Europe ranked on GTPI.

The bull is now 2503 and we get a definitive answer from Alta this week, but it is likely to be no.

The high ranking heifer is a beautiful calf. I have another cracking Spring from another mating. Some of the other Springs are improving, they were born very small. Often those calves take a few months before you know what you have got. I found that with my Moguls as well.

Question for genomic heads.

The lowest ranking of the Spring heifers is 2300, 200 points below it's parent average. Is that a genomic disaster? Is she, in breeding terms, worth less than a 2300 heifer that is 200 points above parent average, or are they worth the same (disregarding the individual traits making up the score)?
