Windbrook's are very inconsistent. Probably not worth the semen price. Some really good, some not so good.

My braxton maiden heifer and windbrook are the same age, braxton has had a very strong heat and been bred, all the windbrook has done is spend 2 weeks in a straw pen after doing the splits

I dunno if I'd call it a cut-off as such Blackwalnut but anything that doesn't breed back to calf before the end of April every year is a goner.

Later calving cows in a grass-based system are a complete disaster from a profitability and management point of view. We want our cows to make as much of their milk as possible from grazed grass and our grazing season runs March (hopefully) to mid/end October. Cows calving in May/June/July will produce too much of their milk in the high cost winter period. just eating away at profits.

Calving Interval currently runs at 376 days

Loving my windbrook's RobJ1
Currently milking 4 of them with a few more to calve in yet, all of them are first lac (VG86, VG85, GP84, and GP83). I think they should last all of them are pregnant again, did take a few services however. Biggest concern for me milking with robots is their milking speed. I've been lucky I'm told with mine as they aren't that bad but still below herd average of 2.5kg (5.67lbs) per min. Although the 86 point one is over 3.5. As a group I'm happy with them, but I would never use him again at the price they are asking for his semen.

Re: Windbrook

I have a couple milking on a robot one is GP84 and the other VG86 2yr there average milk speed is 3.3 kg/m so above the 2.9 herd average.
The 86 pt one has calved again and should be 88 this time I hope

Wow Hayvalley that is a killer herd average! You sound like your lucky with your windbrook as well, few friends on mine on robots as well have milk speeds of 1.1 and even as low as .7.

How long have you been on robots?

coming up for 6 yrs now. Just replaced original robot with A4. Have paid a lot of attention to milk speed in bull selection. I had a few cows that were ridiculously fast so they were the ones I used Windbrook on.

Very nice! Working with the A4's should be easier (atleast I'm told). I'll be coming up on 3 years with A4's in October, but I haven't seen the same milk speed as you, still have some slower girls in the herd but working on weaning them out. I have found the some sires aren't exactly telling the truth with their milking speed in their proofs.
Would you have any suggestions with bulls that have worked really well with their milking speed and overall temperament?

I just had a quick look on T4C and the top 10 cows for milk speed are around 6 l/m all by a different sire but 9 out of the 10 contain Storm blood close up. That may be a coincidence I do know all our Talent's were fast milkers in their day.
