My little provocation 'Linjet is a good bull' did work well :-) . It always works here, mention Linjet, Red Marker or my friend Allegro and all they jump, thanks guys.

No compromise possible, one part thinks they go bust milking Linjets, the other part stops milking when they have to milk Superstitions. You all know in which camp I am as long as I farm. BTW, even with these horrible milk prices in Europe I make a little profit this year.

All hail Black Caviar, the master behind the curtain, pulling the strings of the marionette. You are right, you are in control of your own destiny. Personally I prefer to help make the Holstein breed better than before, instead of staying stuck in the 70's and 80's. Cows have never been better in my world. Happy breedingemoticon

Interesting.

I've been told by certain farmers that Holsteins haven't progressed that far of late and that guys milking Holsteins have pens full of decrepit old Holsteins on 12+ matings. Personally I don't believe that to be the case and Holsteins have made big improvements but what would I know.

You too, and don't take it too seriously. If you're not in the merchandising business, milk price and overall (financial) management are far more important then breeding decisions for staying in business in a profitable way. Breeding just is far more fun to talk about then this financial manure :-).

I don´t think O-man and Shottle should be written in the same sentence with Linjet and Red Marker when it comes to strengh.

Linjet is still the best.
wide, strong, great udder and a bit woody - this is the kind I like. This is why I like to breed.

I know right? Those two absolute turds of bulls that could dry up a flood. Should not be mentioned in the same sentence as two breed level over achievers like Shottle and Oman.

I have been milking cows for longer than I care to remember, originaly British Friesians and then for the last 25 years Holsteins and Silberhof you are correct they should not be talked about in the same sentence. Red Marker and Linjet are two of the biggest woodentops I have ever come across in that length of time!! more milk in a coconut

Re:

the bull bashing continues, how disapointing.

Finding bulls is becoming more and more difficult these days, no thanks to the current destruction of creative value when it comes to breeding. Why on Earth can't these AI companies find alternative matings instead of the same boring matings we have seen these past few years? Do they seriously not care about inbreeding?

It seems to me like if this section of the industry is simply wanting to gain results the quick and easy path, only to realize when it's too late that it's the path of self-destruction. Such blindness is the curse that has gotten humanity into the problems it has today as a society: only looking at short-term gain without thinking about the consequences of the long term.

I'm a bit in the same tune as BlackCaviar: seeing that the new bulls that are getting released don't really fit what I am looking for and hence going back and using the same thing. The hypocrites at Select weren't even capable of releasing the Gabor son Sly.

I'm seriously contemplating using my own bulls and end what has now become a tyrannical Man Against Machine situation.

Sly is negative for component%, negative for productive life, negative for DPR, High SCS, 8%CE, his TPI is under 2000, and He doesnt have a full proof yet, so why the label of hypocrites for Select Sires?
