Re: Ensenada Taboo Planet

I have to say that for a long time I loved checking in on cowtalk, and contributing to the conversation. I do find it amusing that we are still beating poor old Planet up and down the street, must not be too much for new bulls to talk about. As was pointed out, Planet-Bookem-McCutchen-Kingboy or Bookem-Doorman-etc. this is simply idle talk. The breed moves on, Planet will have an everlasting POSITIVE impact both top and bottom side, and his descendants have generated untold $$$ for the breed. As far as not using Doorman and McCutchen because they are 99% from Ramos, why rob yourself of some of the best the breed has to offer? You are shooting yourself in the foot for no reason, profit margins are too tight to pass up selling some fabulous offspring and influencing your herd in a positive way. In the long run you will kick yourself for standing at the dock waiting for a ship that isn't coming in IMO. Sorryemoticon

Poor old planet?

So you are suggesting we don't share our experiences of Bulls we have used? A forum runs really well like that.

I'm not debating planets contribution to the breed. It's undeniable but he has some pretty big flaws.

I'm not alone in my criticizims of planet. If I could keep them out of the hospital pen I would be happy.

In my opinion he is a better bull breeder than a cow maker.

My main point was that Planet is now 3 or 4 generations back in a lot of pedigrees. Our oldest one is now fresh for the 6th time, 2nd oldest will finish over 44,000 on 2x this year and have her 6th calf this summer. Planet is really old news, the newest generation of his blood have rectified any of his shortcomings as well. Must be better things to comment on in 2016.

So comment on these better things then.

It's didn't seem stop you from commenting on planet either. I generally want daughters in for a few lactations before i call a bull a success.

I also didn't know there was a rule that we couldn't comment on bulls that have daughters in more than 2nd lactation.

if I wait a year or two to check back in, will the discussion still be about Planet and all the problems he has created? Same old, same old.

So you feel this stongly about a topic you don't agree with on the net. The internet must be excruciating for you.

Don't like it, don't read it and for sure don't comment on it.

emoticon Excruciating? Wow...not the word I would use to describe my internet experience, or my love of reading about cows, Holstein breeding or the people involved. Sorry if I commented on any subject where your knowledge and opinion clearly surpasses and is superior to mine. Good way to kill a forum, huh?? Hope today is a better day, I better go lay down in the corner now.

In the turbo charged genomic era where a bull is yesterday's news before most people had even heard of him, I think there is merit in taking stock of where we are.

I am as interested to hear about the successful sixth calvers as the cows with bad feet.

Planet is hard wired into the breed. I never used him and it interests me to hear about other breeder's experiences of him. I think hearing about the strengths and weaknesses of a bull are invaluable so that you can avoid making potential errors when making future matings or understanding where problems may have appeared from.

Please quote where I said my knowledge surpasses yours. Please don't make stuff up.

You want to talk about killing a forum. You are the one telling people not to post about their experiences with a certain bull on a forum with that as the bulk of the content.

If you are so worried about old information being posted on here contribute something new then.
