SexedULTRA 4M

Has anyone got decent data on the new 4M?

Apparently sexing tech's have been rolling this out since Jan 2016.

I can't see myself using anything but 4M from here on unless I really want a bull. They are claiming parity with unsexed semen so it now seems a no-brainer.

I'd like to see how it goes with large numbers of mating's, with claims like that.

Is it only ST that have access to it though?

Select Sires (in Canada) is going to start releasing bulls starting April 2017 that will have semen available using the new technology. No sure about other companies. The semen is supposed to cost a bit more too. I too would like to see information on conception rates and how it compares to current rates. Something to back up ST's claim.

Cost, we have enough heifers and raising excess heifers is a waste of money and they don't usually have the bulls I want on sexed. Preferring to support a farmer owned AI unit.

In a perfect world you would use sexed on 60% of your herd and then the rest use a good calving ease beef bull.

Here are the numbers on my farm. In the last 12 months on my heifers I have used 73 units of sexed from ST and averaged 44% conception compared to 75 units of sexed from Semex and Select that averaged 29% conception over the same time frame.
Heifers bred to conventional semen over the same period averaged 51% conception.

I am just starting to use sexed semen on my better cows and using beef on my lower end stuff like Keff mentioned. To soon to tell how it will work.

PVdairy do you know if your ST doses were the new higher sperm counts (4M) then Semex or Select (sexed ULTRA) because they use ST machines due to patents.

I am not sure exactly when they switched to the 4M but I know its been several months now that I have been using it. Pretty sure the semex semen is the sexed Ultra as well.
I looked at just the last 6 months and the conceptions rates are very similar to what I posted above.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I looked at the report I got back from my heifer raiser. I used Holstein semen from select and semex also and a little from crv that they discontinued and I ran 52.72% which looks slightly better compared to your data. I had 220 breedings with 116 pregs. I also used sexed fleckvieh semen from Germany and was 34 out 68 right at 50%. My overall conception I did not subtract the sexed out was a little over 60% I assume I would be close to 70% on conventional semen. I run a large number of crossbreds so I assume I should have a slight advantage in conception. I think your conception numbers should be a little higher especially on conventional. I assume your repeats also get the conventional. I do have an advantage also that being half crossbred that I have a lot of crossbreds that get bred to conventional. I breed the 3rd generation back to Holstein a lot of time and they get sexed. I will be interested in seeing how the new 4m would work

Yea I agree my conception rates seem low. I used to run about like you do but once we moved the heifers into a new slated barn about 4 years ago I can't seem to much better then 50-60 on conventional. I use sexed on my high genomic heifers till they are 13 month old then switch to conventional. The lower genomic heifers get only conventional.

I have a slatted floor barn and we just built a new sand bedded barn and I just got in there this winter and I already see a big increase in conception. my slatted floor barn I use now for late lactation and dry cows and I feel bad moving cows to it
