Comestar Lautrust
Any thoughts on him?
I'm not a fan of the Sudan x Man-O-Man cross (fore udder attachment Is something I would worry about) but considering how the bull comes from the family of Lavanguard, Lauthority and Doorman Lamadonna there is reason to remain optimistic his proof will hold.

Re: Comestar Lautrust
Is it just me; or were the Lauthority's super ugly?
I have never heard of anyone raving about Lauthority of Lavengaurd.
Depends what your end goal is when using him, I suppose.
Personally; I wouldn't use him because his third dam is a Goldwyn and I have enough of that in the herd. But The Sudan x Oman cross added the health and fertility and milk that Goldwyn badly needed. I wouldn't be using Lautrust to increase type; his conformational traits and overall type is very sub par

Re: Comestar Lautrust
I agree with B&W99. I am also no fan of either Lauthority (terrible legs, very straight and no flex in the hock), Lavanguard (there are some pretty ones but his health traits are horrible. Solomon? Good luck)
Has there been any decent Comestar bulls since Leader, Lee and Outside? Stormatic and Lheros were a mixed bag and in my opinion it's been all downhill since.

Re: Comestar Lautrust
Well, i have to say I really don't agree with you guys assessment of Lauthority-
We've had several of them in the herd- most of them are among the best 2nd to 3rd lactation cows. They really develop nicely, and have great depth of body and nice strength which is something Goldwyn kind of lacked.
Yeah, I agree his feet and legs are a bit of an issue but when crossed right I think he works very well- certainly among the better Goldwyn sons in my opinion.
And I certainly wouldn't say his type is "subpar" or at least it doesn't seem that way at the moment with +15 for conformation- sure that may not hold and it's one of the concerns I have If I where to use him but he seems like a decent bull.

Re:
Lauthority was a disappointment for me they tended to be a little crazy and could make them crampy. I think Lautrust type will take a dip his gp% is lower now plus his temperament is bad, but nice to see newly proven bulls from proven bulls. His Mogul brother Comestar Lineman is one to keep a eye on.
I think Solomon is the next big time show bull. His mom is a impressive cow and the heifers we have by him are standouts. I just don't think he will have the production and his cell count looks average. So I haven't used too much of him.

Re:
Our Lauthority daughters all have blown out teat ends and crampy legs. All high cell count. Our Lineman look promising except for the straight legs. I'm staying away from Lautrust.

Re: Comestar Lautrust
I don't mind a straighter leg as they tend to be the longer lasting cow in the herd with less hoof problems.
I guess I just do not see the excitement over Lautrust. His milk and component numbers are decent right now but I expect them to drop a bit as he adds daughters to his proof. He has 135 daughters with 0 of them being US based.
The production is behind him, his family has really great milk records. but I wouldn't use him expecting him to improve udders much.
I will be curious to see some daughters

Re: Comestar Lautrust
We ended up with quite a few Lavanguards got a massive heifer calf rate with him only used 25 straws aswel.
Won a local show a few weeks back with one she's probably the fanciest cow we have bred - that being said she spent 2 lactations with shackles on after a bad calving as a heifer!
He could make them fancy and we have go on fine with ours - conclusion would be they are too big and legs can be too dodgy for a normal cubicle set up.
