What do you think of Accelerated being taken over by Select sires?

Re: Select/ Accelerated

Not too surprising when you think about it. Accelerated has been going downhill in recent years as they haven't released a noteworthy bull since Airlift ( perhaps a consequence of the consolidation and poor breeding decisions done during the age of genomics?)

A bit concerned though of the consolidation of A.I. companies- The decisions being made that affect the future of the breed are being done more and more in the hands of a few vs the many breeders around the world who are at the mercy from a group of geneticists who decide which bulls get used with the stroke of a pen, behind a desk and so forth.

And that is something I am not very happy with.

Re: Select/ Accelerated

I wouldn't say they haven't released a notable bull since Airlift. Airlift was a very one sided bull; only used by type breeders. He hardly was the bull that made a profit for them. I have yet to see many Airlifts or any noteworthy daughters.

Avalanche was the bull in their lineup who was going to put them on the map as far as a type sire. But he's now dead and his limited semen inventory that is out there is commanding prices higher than Goldwyn. He was a full brother to McGucci who was only collected and sold in minimal amounts and then slaughtered to make his semen worth more (quite the marketing ploy eh?)

Apple is still alive and producing so it wouldn't surprise me if they made more McCutchen x Apple bulls and moved them to studs. Even a McCutchen son or something along those lines.

As far as their lineup goes; They supplied truckloads of semen to the big commercial herds. They had a lineup that could suit everyone's needs and they had multiple bulls for each spectrum to choose from. Not only did they offer a massive lineup; but they sold semen because they marketed it at fair price. You could get sexed semen for under $30.00 a straw. This is what made their lineup special. You wanted 10 bulls with balanced proofs across the board (type, production, health), they had it and they had more than 2 to choose from! If you wanted strictly high type; they had 10 bulls in active lineup over 3.0 on type. They had 34 bulls in lineup over 2.5 on type. If you wanted to increase milk; they had 19 bulls over +2000 on milk, 21 bulls with over +90 Fat. If you wanted to improve repro; they had 61 bulls over 2.4 DPR! They also offered massive lineups with many, many different pedigrees and cow families to choose from.

I think that Select buying them out means massive consolidation of the lineups, perhaps making Accelerated defunct all-together within the next few years once the lineup takes its course. Look at what happened to Taurus when ST took over. Select buying Accelerated was not a move to combine both entities to make one large organization. I believe, firmly, that it was done to take Accelerated's market share away because they held a vast amount with Commercial, big herds and they kept studs like Select out of the picture because they were selling considerably cheaper.

Accelerated did not fail because they did not have a strong lineup, they did not fail because they failed to sell their bulls. They failed because of poor management; poor management at the upper helm

Didn't Jetsream sell out to Alta a few weeks back? there was never an announcement regarding this but there was lots of talk about it in recent weeks.

I completely agree with blackandwhite89. I'm disappointed because we had such a good relationship with our Accelerated rep. They called it a merger but I never thought it was a merger, I thought of it as a buy out and a company going out of business. Now Select just has that much less competition.
