How Much is too Much Inbreeding?

I was looking up the proofs of a few genomic bulls that I had bought. I got a bit of a surprise when I saw their inbreeding percentages. The bulls in question:
Sandy-Valley Piston - inbreeding 10.2%
Westcoast Guarantee - inbreeding 13.2%
Progenesis Topnotch - inbreeding 10.2%

It is likely no big deal but they do seem high.

From here on the inbreeding is likely going to accelerate fast as Mogul and Supersire blood is intensively layered over and over again.

I actually thought that inbreeding would reduce a couple of years ago because there seemed to be a bit of diversity in Uno, Bookem, Robust, Epic, Freddie, Superstition, Tango etc. But since the domination of Supersire and Mogul, then Montross, and now Jedi and Modesty, there seems to me to be a narrowing of diversity again.

Who knows whether this will actually be a problem but you would have thought it was a possibility.

Probably need to keep a good eye on lines, the more inbred a bull, the better the cross will be on unrelated cows as you get heterosis effects.

I like that thinking.

Not sure it is actually possible in the Holstein Breed today though. You would be hard pushed to find any lines totally unrelated to the rest of the population now.

The inbreeding percentage must reach a point were it can not go any higher on average. After a certain point u will really have to try to get a higher inbreeding figure.A good example would be Admiral Fobes Jule who has a rating of just under 45% i can not see the average bull in the future achieving these inbreeding percentages.

The vast amount of maternal lines should keep inbreeding at a certain level without them inbreeding could reach high levels because repeated breeding to the same maternal lines creates higher inbreeding.

I personally think the way genomics is talking the breed is literally a highway to hell in terms of inbreeding.

At the moment I can more or less get by, but I fear that unless the AI Studs start to actually use European genetics more into their current roster of bulls (and doesn't stay as an empty promise) things are going to get very ugly very soon, and we are either going to have to incorporate British Friesian into the breed or use some bulls for sire fathers that where neglected previously (Gabor, Impression, Boss Iron- maybe go even farther back into Bootmaker, Astronaut, Enhancer, etc).

I've had to start using Dutch bulls. 9% inbreeding is my limit.

I struggle to understand the inbreeding calculator.
Breed this bull.

           Willards Aristocrat Duce-Red/
           Keagan/
           Eliese (Job Stewart daughter)
           Yvonne
           Wish
  King Mael:
           Grace
           Dolly
           Ariel(Job Stewart daughter)
           Wish

To this cow
           Deep-Valley Contender-Red/
 Lullymore:
           Grace
           Dolly
           Ariel
           Wish

14.3 %. Inbreeding?

King Mael and Lullymore are both out of Grace. Wish is the fourth dam on both sides of the pedigree. King Mael is out of Keagan. The third dam is Wish. I look at that and see 50% of the pedigree is from Grace. There is additional influence from Keagan, also tracing back to the same cow. How, when the breed average for % inbreeding is 5.8%; is this mating only 14.3%.

What is the inbreeding percentage for Grace if she has a low inbreeding value that would probably be your answer for only getting 14%.
