Re: Germany's dairy farmers on strike!

Farmers are demanding 0.43 €/kg and are being paid between 27 and 37 Cents at the moment.
Milk in the supermarkets is at about 60 Cents or even below.

There were some conversations between farmers, milk industry and big supermarket chains, but no results as yet.
Yesterday farmers blockaded many dairy plants. Thus no milk could go in and no milk products could be delivered. Some of them are still closed today. The police had to clear some of the blockades.
Obviously clearly less than 50% of the German milk has been delivered to the creameries yesterday and supermarkets are slowly running out of milk.

Thats the problem. They are more worried about clearing the blockades, than actually working on a solution.. Its the case with anything, make sure it stays calm, vs striking a deal.

The top brands may be higher, but not more than 75 Cents.
This is the German problem. Food prices are extremely low compared with the rest of the EU.

Well done to the continental dairy farmers for taking such a strong stand, at such a large cost in the short term. Farmers For Action tried to organise a similar protest on a single day here in the UK, when our prices were the lowest in Europe at 17ppl, and achieved less than 5% witheld, with most farmers taking no notice at all.

The strike has ended yesterday evening after ten days. Supermarket chains announced to increase the retail price of milk by 10 Cent and the butter price by 20 Cent per 250g package. Other products are not yet being discussed.
Unfortunately our creamery sells 70% of their products abroad or to the industry. Thus I don`t expect to get a much higher milk price next month. emoticon
