Hmm, I still won't be surprised if it starts with an 18 after the next auction, which invariably translates into 17 or even 16 into ones pocket. :arrh
Why does it feel like...........

A somewhat surprising auction result today of [sign in to see URL], this would need to be ROCK BOTTOM though!

Re: Leaving United?

Really?

Dale Farm was able to bid 22.7 at the previous auction for its purchases, despite the average settling at [sign in to see URL]. Volume for this auction was 46m down from 56m last month as we slide off the peak. And GB milk would have cost c. 24p delivered of late. Other purchasers at that auction appear to have let the farmer down by sitting back - either they couldn't afford to pay any more for the milk than they did, or they thought it worthy to drag the NI price as low as they could - either of these being very concerning for their own co-op members, I would have thought.

Should be interesting to see what members do over the next 6 - 12 months given today's ending of the auction.

I think it should be good for members. I'm personally quite happy about it.

Re: Leaving United?

I think the post auction industry will be likely to be a lot more balanced. This probably needed to happen years ago, except that United has had to build herself up to it. I think it could have been done more quickly, obviously with larger borrowings and more risk. That is a youngish head talking, and a board of oldish heads were obviously bound to be much less risk-on. Of course there is much to be said for a strong balance sheet, but any debt is effectively underwritten through the farmers' milk price anyway. We have spent years helping to 'underwrite' other industry prices. Getting here has been very painful, but here we are and we will have to see how this progression turns out. The timing of this could be very good, as we are selling onto a rising market going forward through the spring. It may just be the soft start needed to introduce the new system.

One thing that is kinda odd is not being able to look at your phone to see what next month's base is going to be.

I agree FOAF, to not get a text yesterday confirming next month's price was strange indeed! I think it is a positive move for the remaining members of United, it should be interesting to see how the 'others' price their milk now that they don't have the monthly auction as a benchmark.

Locally though, I don't think it bodes so well for our wee co-op in Augher. They are already struggling and this could mark the end for them.

It would have been a nice gesture by United to have put an extra 1 or [sign in to see URL] onto the previous month's price to reflect the rising global market, still time for that to happen yet though, March is still a week away!!!!

Re: Leaving United?

It's been a while since this thread has been active, so given the recent drop in prices is anyone else considering a move at the moment?
