In the EU vets have to follow a pescription "cascade" which only allows unlicensed drugs to be used in the absence of licensed ones for that particular indication in that particular species. Even then there are many drugs which are specifically prohibited from food producing animals. I am not certain which thread Buckeye is referring to, but I agree with dairlylands that it would be too easy to unwittingly give the impression of wrong/overuse of drugs within our sector. After all Cowtalk has been (mis)quoted in the press already... remember the Paradise calf at Smiddiehill. I have been a little disquieted once or twice when specific issues have come up that should really be a matter for the individual producer to discuss with his/her veterinarian, who will of course be well versed in the specific regulations in their country. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Eryl Vet)Mon, 24 May 2010 12:00:47 +0000 Re: Drug Use Policyhttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415435,from=rss#post415435https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415435,from=rss#post415435I thought this thread was going to announce that all posts typed whilst using performance enhancing drugs would be removed. It would be a shame to lose Mayjay's posts. You can always include the point "in the USA", "in Canada", "in etc". Dairylands hits the point, dead on. Cowtalk is often one of the first links that shows up on a Google search. As an industry we must be vigilant to use drugs in an approved manner. Otherwise we will lose the use of them.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Buckeye)Tue, 11 May 2010 13:18:13 +0000 Re: Drug Use Policyhttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415247,from=rss#post415247https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415247,from=rss#post415247Folks this is a public forum and surely remarks about drug use could be taken out of context in some vegan propaganda. There is a pm option for what could be helpful advice though. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dairylands)Tue, 11 May 2010 09:03:43 +0000 Re: Drug Use Policyhttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415246,from=rss#post415246https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415246,from=rss#post415246not all countries have the same drug use protocols or withholds so how can one say what is legal or not? also several times I have had vets perscribe drugs for "off label"usenondisclosed_email@example.com (foxleigh)Tue, 11 May 2010 08:07:18 +0000 Drug Use Policyhttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415244,from=rss#post415244https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p415244,from=rss#post415244I am discussing this with the other members of the Cowtalk Staff. A few concerns spring to mind after reading the recent thread that showed up. No one is in trouble, but lets keep the information posted limited to accepted and approved treatment protocols. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Buckeye)Tue, 11 May 2010 04:38:12 +0000
