do you have rubber on the floors? hard to tell in the pictures. Your cows look awesome!

Yes we put in "Ani-mat" rubber in feed ally`s and holding area about 4 years ago, very happy with it. Our concrete was getting very slick and we figured better to spend on something that gives better traction and cushion versus re grooving.

Riceton, Do you care to share the dam-line on that Atwood? I'm curious because your cows tend to be the strong, beautifully framed cows and You'd expect more from Atwood out of cows like that. emoticon

That old Emerson is a great cow.

She is out of the Final Cut I have a picture of earlier in this thread. Still have her, very nice cow with plenty of width, just needed stretched out a bit, thought Atwood would work good on her. I dont like any Atwood I have had, one other already beef, sold one as a springer that was too tall and way frail and high pinned and have another ready to calve that looks exact same. All were out of cows with enough width. He is kinda like Durham for me, I used tons of Durham thinking with the width I have he would have worked good, I probably had 15-20 of them without one being anything special. Couple were ok cows but lot were ugly pukes, a big disappointment.

Update on the old Emerson. Calved with a Massey heifer in July, 11th lactation. Didnt have any problems just doesnt want to take off. Second month only milking 65#, just seems to be going down hill and really showing age, think it might be her time. She will finish with over 330,000 lifetime. I took this picture the other morning. She is on left and her Lou daughter is on right. Lou is just fresh with 5th calf at 5-08 and has over 126,000# in first four lactations. Averaging over 95# a day since turning two. She had 150# on first test last night. Besides the Massey calf, the Emerson also has a Massey yearling and a Windbrook 2yr milking well. A very consistant family, high milk not very pretty but last forever. Low fat test also runs in the family.

Not sure. We have blood test cows before and vet just says leukosis, not sure what exact type. It is not a big problem in our herd but get one every once in a while. We do use new needle each cow and new sleeve on each cow also to prevent the spread of [sign in to see URL] is transmitted by flies also so dont know how to totally stop it.
