Sahara Sale

Friday 17th September will witness one of the most eagerly anticipated sales of 2010 take place, when Sahara Holsteins stage their first ever sale at Church Farm, Wilcrick, Magor, Momouthshire.

Having invested in some of the world’s leading cow families, through an extensive ET programme, they are now excited to be able to offer for sale a mouth-watering selection of top quality Holstein Genetics in the aptly named “Stars of Sahara Sale”

Many of the world’s top cow families will be represented in the sale, including members of the Savage-Leigh Licorice, Windy-Knoll View Promise, Copywood Integrity Sara, Lavender Ruby Redrose, Kingstead Chief Adeen, Shoremar S Alicia, Tri-Day Ashlyn, (via Ambrosia and Ashlyns Angel) Budjon JK Linjet Eileen, DRA August, Regan-Joy Durham Regenia and Markwell BSTar E Raven families sell. Whilst primarily the focus at Sahara is to breed for exceptional type, from marketable and established cow families, the first genomic results received back from the U.S are very encouraging of animals selling, with both high GTPI (over 2000) and GPTAT (over 3.5) scores on members of the Ashlyn and Regenia families offered in the sale

Owned by Sheikha Noora Al-Khalifa, and managed by David Jones, the Sahara herd has gone from strength to strength since it was established in 2007. Housed and managed in the fantastic facilities in Wilcrick, animals exhibited under the Sahara prefix have enjoyed incredible success at the shows in recent years, winning numerous awards and an enviable list of All Britain nominations.
In 2009 Sahara won an incredible 5 out of 6 classes at the National Calf Show held at the Centenary Holstein Show, and Canadian judge Dan Doner awarded them a clean sweep in the Championship winning Champion, (Ridgefield Fortune Ash Angel) Reserve (Sahara Damion Tessie) and Honorary Mention (Ridgefield Show Rosie). The next day under fellow Canadian judge Brian Carscadden they then went on to win Junior Champion (Sahara Damion Tessie) and Champion Calf (Sahara Damion Sara) in the Open Show.
This year’s National Holstein Show was equally as successful, providing Sahara with 4 class winners, including Junior Champion, whilst the Royal Welsh this year also provided them with Champion Holstein and Champion Heifer in milk- many of these show-winning animals sell ready to grace the show-ring for their new owners on Friday 17th September.

On arrival, the sale cattle and the full facilities at Sahara will be available for inspection with complimentary food and drink served from 11.30am onwards, the Stars of Sahara Sale selling 70 head will commence at 1pm, with Norton and Brooksbank residing in the rostrum, catalogues will be available from them in due course.

The potential of the animals selling is unlimited, with proven show successes, and many more who will undoubtedly tread the tanbark in future months and years, this sale represents a fantastic opportunity for every Holstein enthusiast to invest in the very best!
