Re: Obama got Osama
Johnny, I'm aware of that, but any of us could've given the approval to carry out that mission. I prefer to give credit to our troops that have been putting their lives on the line for our freedom.

But does this really need to be a game about who gets the credit? If the mission had gone terribly wrong, I can venture a strong guess as to where the blame would go. Sure, you or I could've given the approval to carry out the mission. But could you or I have put together the team (Joint Chiefs, Intelligence) to put the troops in position to carry out the mission?
I think it's just silly to play up or downplay anybody's involvement in this. War is a bipartisan team effort. Heck, even Dick Cheney praised Obama.

Re: Obama got Osama
Sorry Jonny, guess I shouldn't have given credit to our troops. Still proud of the job they did though.

Re: Obama got Osama
While I am happy the man was finally brought to justice, I am saddened by the jubilant celebrations in the streets. Looking back at the appalling way some of our dead soldiers have been dragged through the streets amongst cheering crowds, I can't help but wonder if we are much different. It makes me glad that he got a quick burial and that they have not shown the pictures.
God bless the USA and peace-loving people all over the world.

Nothing wrong with being proud of the troops and what they've done. And perhaps maybe I shouldn't direct this towards you, but after this has all gone down I've seen an absurd amount of drivel from both sides either heaping all the praise on Obama or claiming that Obama deserves no credit at all.
I just found your comment about anybody being able to make the call to execute the mission to be extremely simple-minded. It still takes a leader to put everybody in a position to execute the calls that you make. No, Obama didn't pull the trigger himself. But the team he put together to coordinate all this did, from top to bottom. An example of a chain-of-command working to perfection.
Same with employees on a farm. My job as their boss is to put them in a position to succeed. I don't deserve all the credit for success, but without effective leadership, we'd be like a rudderless ship.
I just think some people are so jaded in their hatred of Obama that even when something happens that we can all be thankful for, they'll still look for ways to downplay his part in this. Vice versa too, some people think this was all Obama.
Politically speaking, he'll get a short-term bump, but unless the economy gets better he'll still face a tough challenge in 2012. He'd be toast if the GOP could put out a competent challenger, but you're not going to find that amongst the current group of Sarah Palin's and Michelle Bachmann's and Donald Trump's.

Re: Obama got Osama
Sorry, but I have gotten extremely tired of the politicians in this country (democrat or republican), so I probably tend not to give most of them too much credit for things. I don't disagree with what you are saying, however sometimes I think our troops don't get nearly the recognition they deserve. I do appreciate being called simple minded though.

Re: Obama got Osama
On my last visit to America I was amazed to see so many signs in suport of the troops, from bumper stickers to posters.
In parts of England British troops have been instructed not to wear their uniforms off base, in case of negative reaction in the streets. This has eased since we shifted focus to Afghan from Iraq, but there is nowhere near the universal support for the troops that I saw in the States.
