It can be hard to wade through some of this.

Visited several farms in Wisconsin + Ohio earlier this month. The standout calves / heifers were the McCutchens, so stylish & correct, some certainly look destined for the show ring.

Also saw some really good milking Bookem, Robust & Observers (def protect for teat length)

Getting more confident about using genomic sires going forward as most of the top new proven ones had been successfully identified by genomics

What stood out mostly Up Two?

If u want less options for breeding because of inbreeding go ahead keep doing the same as before the only way to fix something is to reverse what has created this situation.

It is the same problem with cows that don't last is it any wonder when most bulls came from high producing 2yr olds that were super early maturing and die off quick and don't reproduce there cells for longer like a slow maturing cow.

Keep telling yourself the only way to get long living profitable cows is through short generations with high inbreeding from super early maturing cows see how far that gets u in the end.A lot of people are being played like a violin today with these Genomics that are not based on real life production and longevity were is the real evidence.

Take the bull Slingemans New Gold who comes from an anti Genomic stud he was born in 2008 his mother was born in 1994 and gave 185,000kgs and lived till she was 17 this is honest breeding from a great stud with honest goals and selection for the dairy farmer.

We get it KingMambo, and in the end it is up to each person who owns their own cows to conduct their breeding program as they wish, succeed or fail on their own terms. It is called freedom of choice. Go get your own cows and conquer the world, I'm sure your choices will be way better than anybody on here can come up with. Offer advice, but quit the essays and ranting.

I am not ranting at all this is a problem that from my future predictions will become a serous problem and I do not believe people fully understand the tidal wave that is being created not fixed.

U talk about freedom of choice but what is freedom of choice if your freedom of choice decision creates no freedom of choice for the majority of the people is this acceptable at all not in my eyes.A diverse breed will give more freedom of choice to more people because more choice has been created.

The people that own the top percentage of cattle have a moral obligation to provide the freedom of choice for the majority of people and not the minority of the people. This mantra that has been placed in the community about the best or highest Genomics is absolutely false and self defeating and has no direction at all for what goals need to be achieved.

To make or bring about change u have to have a direction or goal and I can not see any goal or direction using McCutchen on an Observer daughter from a top family that will provide the genetics for the future for the majority to use.The only reason this cross was made was to get the highest Genomics to make more money and to hell with the people in the future or the animals that have to live with being highly inbreed in the future.

Why would my mating's be any better than anyone else the only difference maybe that I would breed for direction and the problems the majority face and to make a product that fits there goals because honesty to other humans and animals is the only real policy breeding on the grounds of greed and lies will not work.

If people want to bury there head in the sand and say nothing is wrong while peoples freedom of choice is forced upon them in the future why should I care the future will prove the answer.

You are assuming myself and others on here are doing nothing in our own herds to deal with this problem? Nearly everyone other than Black Caviar thinks its a problem and are making their own plans to deal with it. Caviar prefers to linebreed because of a particular goal and that is fine. Ever since the caveman, people tend to think the world is going to heck in a handbasket, and the younger generation is doomed. Have a little faith man. Humans usually create and later solve their own problems.
I don't have a crystal ball, but I know good Lord willing I'll put milkers on tonite, feed calves and call it a day, and do it all again tomorrowemoticon

With all do respect Kingmambo, your rants remind me of the Unimbomber Manifesto. I agree with you that inbreeding is becoming a larger and larger problem and genomics has only made things worse. It's up to the dairymen buying the semen to decide how big of a problem it really is. Every thing boils down to supply and demand. If the dairymen demands more out-cross bulls, then I can promise you the studs will supply it.

its al a matter of opinion everyone, each of us is entitled to it. Sadly; genomics is turning us down the wrong patch of extreme inbreeding. How hard is it to find bulls to use that are no sired by Oman, Shottle, Robust, Shamrock, Bolton, Dorcy, Mogul, Goldwyn. I'm browsing the supe-sampler list on Select right now and you have these options to choose from. So where are you going to go from here in the future?? Half of their line-up is Shamrock or Oman bulls and I'll quite dairying before I use anything Shamrock again.
