Re: DE-SU BKM McCutchen 1174

I don't think McCutchen is a game changer... I think the only reason he has high type numbers currently is because he's being used on show cattle (Goldwyn) to create fancy calves. Don't expect to breed him to a commercial cow and get a show stopper. I have been using some Meteor in my herd. He is a maternal brother to McCutchen (planet). Mine were born small but have grown very well. They are quite thick with a lot of bone. Will be strong cows but not the type of angular heifers and cows winning at shows. The Meteor's have correct legs and good depth of rib and complete frames. Should be good, strong functional cows.

His type numbers now have NOTHING to do with what cows he is being used on. You dont get type numbers from heifers that haven`t calved.

I think McCutchen will be a good one as well, and one of the top bulls to look forward to in the coming years. Very pleased with the two we have here.

McCutchen is a genomic bull so his high type numbers came from the funny equations that are called genomics. As I should not hijack any threats , I just can send everybody to the genomics threat over here to find out how accurate this prediction is.

I have a couple of Mccutchens. They are pretty correct but they are also fairly extreme, in that they are very tall and long. They don't strike me as the kind of cattle the regular commercial farmer would appreciate. More Goldwyn than Oman.

What are other people finding?

Craig,We haven't used him as yet but our son is working at a well known show barn in the U.S. when I ask him what the best calves are he always says the McCutchens are standouts in the pens!

My McCutchens even though they are out of different types of cows are all cut the same tall long and dairy. They certainly have something about them, Doorman also makes them similarly.
