I was reading the Sandy-Valley Facebook page. They do not seem too impressed with the type of the first few McCutchens they have calved. High pins was one of the main gripes.

They told me they weren't happy with the front teat placement either at that point in time also.

Re:

We have 15 McCutchen heifers and a similar number of bulls and none have died. The oldest of which we are now just flushing.
They are all open ribbed with a Feb born one winning its class at our calf show and standing reserve Champion also. She was out of a Vg Gabor x Farnear Shottle Bailey.

Re:

He has been used a tremendous amount on show type cows. Keep in mind what makes "great" show cows these days; especially 2 year olds (think Atwood). The daughters from these matings are going to tremendously impact McCutchen's proof both type wise as well as elsewhere. Atwood is +4.7 on type but "type" is relative. Are they open ribbed, wide chested, wide rumped, good rumped cows? No they are not. Use McCutchen on these extreme cows and you will get the extreme end of his type spectrum.

Used on commercial grade cows: the type found in Freddie, Oman, Super, etc and you will not have something comparable to the one's from Goldwyn blood.

Breeders are quick to forget that the result of a mating is two halves. Don't look at the daughters from the big name Goldwyn's to be comparable to the type of animal you get from a Freddie or similar.

I would tell you again Dabble that he has been used on all types of cows, and early on esp. it was high number, high genomic dams for sure.. Welcome-Stock doesn't breed show cows for example. Before anyone gets all jacked up about the bull, a few thousand will freshen in the next year, and only then will anyone know. His semen is very fertile, and with a lower price used pretty widely in the last while. I don't doubt some show cows got bred to him, but he hasn't been ordained the go to bull for show calves.

From my understanding he was not used on big show type cows until people realized the quality of calves he was making out of the high genomic cows. Than you saw your big show guys start using him.
