How to post pictures on the forums (using imgur)
Have you got an image on your computer and want to put it on the forum? There are several ways to skin the cat and I will show you an easy one.
You need to upload the picture to what is called an image hosting website, for this example I will use imgur, it is one of the most popular and very easy to use.
http://imgur.com/
Before you start, there are a couple of options with imgur, you can make an account so you can easily find the images again, or you can just host it without making an account. I prefer to have an account so I can use the images again easily.
Now you need to upload the image you want to the image host.
Select Computer
A dialogue box will open so navigate to the image you want to upload (you can select multiple images)
You will see the image listed at the bottom of the screen, now select start upload
It shouldn’t take long, depending on the size of the image
Here is the uploaded image, on the right you will see a list of links (green squircle).
The best thing about imgur is the BB code link (orage/middle square) it gives you and the easy resizing options (blue/bottom square).
If you have a big image, please select the Large size for posting on the forums if your image is large. It will make sure that the image doesn't end up huge.
Note to mods: if there is a super large imgur photo, add a lower case L before the file extension to make it large size.
i.e. http://i.imgur.com/R2Oj6ha.png
to http://i.imgur.com/R2Oj6hal.png
Ok, your picture is on the internet, how do you put in on the forum?
When posting on Cowtalk you can see an insert image button in the top left
It will give you a popup, asking for an image URL (this may look slightly different depending on your browser)
Remember the list of links you got from imgur? This is where you copy/paste that link
It should look something like this once you press OK - note the [IMG] "tags" either side of the link? That's the bit that tells the forum to display an image.
The second way is a shortcut around using the "add image" button. Copy the "BB code" link I pointed out earlier and paste it directly into the text area.
One you have added the link to the image in, you are done!
Hopefully I covered it well enough, please let me know if something needs clarifying.
Thanks for reading, here have his silly image I drew/animated :P
