peritonitis

our much waited for future herdsire who is 3 months old has just been opened up and diagnosed with peritonitis.Caused by being a guts and eating too much grain which has burned a hole in his gut.
however despite surgery he is still fronting up for his regular feeds and is still getting antibiotic.
has anyone managed to save an animal with peritonitis and if they did, what treatment did they do?
according to my mercks so long as the fluid drains out of the body and antibiotics and liquid is kept up one can save animals, however our vet doesnt hold much hope altho she was surprised that he was in such good shape given the state of his gut.

Re: peritonitis

We had a calf that had a calfhood hernia and after the surgery developed peritonitis, we did save her but it was touch and go for about 10 days. Lots of lactated ringers and pennicilin. She has a bed sore scar that is over 2 years old now. Our vet didn't have hope either.
