Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
Yes it can and has been done. Flushed an 13 month old and recoverd 5 #1. Need to be really careful not to overdose on FSH. Error under rather then over. To much and you risk screwing her up and zero recovery on the flush. I would rather have 3-6 then try to shoot for the moon and get zero

Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
I ve done it several times myself over the years with mixed results. The one thing I would say, is be careful when your vet blocks her. they are easy to overdose, and then you can't keep them standing to do the flush

Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
Thank you both for your tips, I really appreciate it. This is a first for our vet too so thank you so much! We hope to flush her early march.

Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
It went well! We recovered 7 sexed embryos. She was 12 months and has shown a strong heat again. It was a little tricky getting the rod in...

Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
Thanks! I honestly don't know anything about Jersey bulls so we went with our select reps recommendation of Eclipse-P.

Re: flush virgin jersey heifer
Glad to hear it worked out. I have one milking (nice cow), and actually just flushed her yesterday to SR Nathan Pro. (6 good ones)
Im glad you had such good luck with sexed semen. I haven't heard too many good stories. My vet flushed his holstein heifer to sexed Gold Chip, and got 20 good embryos. He talked a farmer into do a sexed flush with a different bull, and the cow made 22 embryos, but only 2 were fertilized. I hear about more bad flushes than good ones.
