Re: Successful sires with "pedigree holes"

You are right Caviar, they are not 60+ inches, but they are some of the most mobile, easy walking, profitable, fun to milk cows on the planet Earth. Ya, there type really sucks, they just do what cows are supposed, make money. Thanks for sharing your opinion, whatever it is based on.

In the genomic era Da-So-Burn Earnhardt P is another example. If I remember the story correctly the tie stall barn was full so his Lawnboy dam was on a straw yard/ pack, but unfortunately went down one night and got frostbite on her udder. The sire analyst had expressed an interest in the calf she was carrying before she had calved so went ahead and genomically tested her bull calf .... Earnhardt P.

He is definitely having a significant impact on polled genetics.

So that is 87, NC, 77, nothing.

So it seems Oman didn't hurt the type at all.

BC probably don't comment on the type of Freddies until you have seen one. They will be still going long after every pampered Braxton is gone.

OK you guys are right, I'm not familiar with those kinda bulls, didn't look right, looked at the useless classification of bulls instead of dams. Excuses.

Ugly cows don't even calve here, I sell them before calving, so I'll never know how functional Freddies are, I just don't want to milk those kinda cows. There is more in life then just milking cows, I try to milk nice cows. Most Braxtons aren't very nice either though, until now. I like my Allegro, Hvezda and Camdens that calves this fall much better.

Depends on the criteria like a lot of things in life. 1 acre of farmland for USD 20.000 we consider cheap in our part Holland, you probably think different about this as well.

With my criteria the average Freddie is ugly :-).

You can milk what ever type of cow makes you happy, BC. We have very different breeding goals thats for sure, but I think the fact that your farm is just a hobby enables you to milk cows based soley on eye appeal. When your sole incomes derives from milk sales, then your Freddie daughters look bettter and better all the time (not that they are ugly in the first place). I enjoy your post and your sense of humor, but sometimes your constant negativity towards the more commercial type cow and genomics gets repetitious and stale.

I think another aspect of this thread is to consider bulls from farms that are not traditional breeder herds. freddie is one of the best examples of genomics identifying an elite bull before daughter data. classifying here in the U.S rewards tall skinny pukes that cant walk to a feed bunk. there are some really awesome cows that are gp and vg in commercial herds those scores dont faze me a bit sub 80 would make me scratch my head.

Freddie blood will probably be better in a couple of generations at the moment he is very extreme. He does have some quality parts that are useful and Bolton and Blitz look the best crosses for Freddie or even Zade for extreme fertility and more Tesk blood.

If you mean extreme PL and DPR, sound udders and feet and legs. And solid production.

What is wrong with Freddie? Perfect dairy farmer bull.
