I've seen some dairy farmer protests about milk price around the world of late. Does anyone think this does more harm than good. Talked to some non dairy people and they are sick of whinging dairy farmers as if their business is the only one who is struggling. I tend to agree with them. I don't know if it creates a great image for the industry.

I often think those protesting prices would be better using that time to work on improving their business.

Re: Re:

There have been plenty of times here in the UK in recent years where the sort of protests currently happening should have happened.

Can't help thinking that this isn't one of them. As long as there's too much milk out there buyers are going to be able to pull prices down.

It's going to be tough and it's going to finish some dairy producers, but we can't expect much in the way of political help when the biggest problem is over production.

Subsidising prices at current production levels isn't likely to happen, neither is a return to political supply control.

As Bazza says, look at your business very carefully and hope that when the music stops you still have a chair.

I love how I am reading news articles of NZ dairy farmers saying Canadian dairy farmers need to get with the times and enter the world market. Then the next article I read and it says an estimated 90% of NZ dairy farmers will lose money this year.
