Would you rather use a bull that test well on 1 health test or 2? I prefer the 2 unless the 1 is perfect, Imm+ and DWP aren't perfect.

RTG, I neither deny nor confirm Immunity +, but, Seaver does have an exceptional SCC score. Did we need Immunity+ to tell us the Seavers were less likely to have mastitis?

their contemporaries were all sired by bulls with exceptional scc scores. no special treatment. It's science. Peer reviewed science and as i heard once in a presentation in the US you can't argue with science although some will always try as shown by a few comments on here.

The key question is, if its bunkum as a few others seem to be suggesting, why did every stud worth a salt on the planet ask for the test to be applied to their bulls?

They obviously got turned down but they all know the science is real

Again immu+ is useless. There is no scale. It's like saying a bull is fat+. It could be +1lb of fat or 100lb.

It's an indirect measure. Let's get with the times and actually give us a measurement of something we want to know. Mastitis resistance, lameness resistance ect.

It's semex trying to tick people into thinking they have something other studs don't.

Hey good for them. Some people fall for it.

Again you completely ignore the fact that it is the bulls in the top 90% so your example of a bull of at 1 lb of fat vs 100 lbs is ridiculous. If you want to improve your fat you will use a bull in the 90th percentile just like if you want to improve immunity.

And Canada now does have mastitis resistance on bull proofs.

On my August Semex proof sheet 30 Bulls are immu+ the other 44 are not. What a joke.

It's cause people would rather buy a Imm+ bull so that's the one they list, look at the top 30 Semex GTPI young sires.

Now look at the top Imm+ young sires
[url][sign in to see URL]
Only 5 of the top 30 are Imm+. It is the University of Guelph that does the testing and designate which are Imm+ not Semex. It's like some people look for reasons to get upset.

Upset. You are funny. It's inferior to a direct measure of the important traits we want rather than some obscure thing like immu+. It's flawed from the start.

I think its good that only certain bulls are highlighting that they are immunity+....shows more reality!
Yes the number of bulls has increased because they have bred for [sign in to see URL] its heritability.
As for data its fairly well documented the average reduction in mastitis, lameness ect between a high immune response animal versus an average.
As for a [sign in to see URL] have launched Transition [sign in to see URL] just adds even more credibility to the [sign in to see URL] unfortunately de value it by making every bull in their catalogue either 4or 5 star!!
At least semex admit not every bull is not a high immune responder!

Re: Semex Healthsmart and Immunity+

I spoke to a guy from Semex at UK Dairy Day about Immunity +. He was asking me if I used Immunity + bulls. I told him that I was sceptical about Immunity + because when you look at the health traits on the first daughter proven bulls they are fairly average apart from Seaver's SCC, which is excellent.

He had been quizzing one of the researchers on Immunity + on this very point.

The answer he had got was that the health trait data has a lot of "noise" in it. The studies on Immunity + had been done in large herds with excellent records. As a result the Immunity + was thought to be more accurate because it was based on higher quality data. This was why the heritability on Immunity + is quoted at 30% compared to the much lower figures for conventional health traits.
