Footbath

Anyone try rock salt as a foot bath? Anybody use something as an alternative to copper sulfate but had just as good of results?

We started using Healmax Footbath last march and I will never change products. Works great to help heal, but the biggest changes are a significant reduction in new cases. Due to the layout of the barn we are fortunate enough to be able to run our bred heifers through the bath twice a week, so we rarely get heifers calving in with strawberry. Only downside is the cost.

Only thing I've found that still works great months later other than copper is zinc. Most"alternative"products work great for a few months and then problems creep up. Most are very acidic and actually hurt the hoof.

Re: Re:

hi formalin is good for hoof hardening we got good results from dipping in collection yard one 1/2 of yard is bunded and has clean water to get dirt off.
2nd 1/2 of dip yard has rocksalt diluted its cheap as a rough salt .change very 2 weeks leave them in for 20 mins
less risk of injuries as they try to avoid going into the dip, no bunching delays on way out.Going in before they ran too quick to get the feed and dipping no good as the witches wer sprinting!
the rocksalt detoxes their hooves, you know where the problem areas are up at the top of the hoof.Works for humans too apaerently
