I see that he's a 0 on type - that's quite impressive on the Ayrshire base for a Foske (0.2) x Raastad (-1.00).

Out of interest what was his preliminary NM$ and how much higher is his final $645 than the preliminary figure?

He compares well with all but a handful of the imported sires.

Yeah I was expecting negative type, he was better than parent average for the big three udder traits (in my mind anyway), udder depth, udder cleft and fore udder attachment.

His preliminary evaluation had a net merit of $408 but I'm finding that the final evaluations are coming out much higher.

The heifer that I tested went jumped up to $660 net merit this proof run (I believe she was $587 in the last monthly evaluation). Link to her production proof

Another interesting thing I found, not to do with genomic testing but the Elite Ayrshire cow list. Link to list

Needless to say a pile of my crossbreds are showing up on that list now. Hopefully the Ayrshire breeders don't come after me emoticon

One that stood out is a Braut X Holstein (Marion), J-Lungs Braut 3045. (Link to her production proof

Net Merit: $871
PTA Milk: +3024
PTA Fat: 124 lbs
PTA Protein: 100 lbs
PL: +0.8
DPR: +3.4

Can't remember if she is bred yet but perhaps I should be breeding this cow to Red instead of crossing. She is definitely one of the best in the herd, I always said Marion was a great Holstein bull to cross the next generation. Braut was a perfect match, maintain great production and fix Marion's awful health and repro traits. Funny thing is that this cow was the result of a terminal c-section where we got her out as a calf and put down the dam because she was down for two weeks before calving. Well worth the trouble emoticon

Just spit that list out into a spreadsheet, 90 of the top 92 net merit cows on that list are mine, and one of those two is sired by a Holstein bull (at least mine the Holstein is a generation or two back!)

Looks like I haven't bred the Braut daughter yet, I've got some semen from the Norwegian bull Skjelvan on the way for her. On US proofs, he is +2889 milk +108 lbs fat +99 lbs protein, +2.4 PL +4.8 DPR, $889 net merit. Skjelvan actually fits this cow's udder traits well, while keeping massive production. Win win as long as it is a heifer, got to get them up to 87% before genomic test, a 75% bull is fairly useless.

Funnily enough I'm trying to get Geno UK to bring in some Skjelvan for me as well... he looks a good mating on some of our cows, especially with that production. Because his health traits weren't as high as some NRFs they hadn't brought him into the country as a crossbreeding sire.... but his PL seems to have improved this proof run.

Gopollen looks like the best all round Braut son so far and the highest on their TMI index. He will be used a lot as a sire of sons in the NRF breed.

Way to go, Jonny! Foske Sigurd is #128 of all Ayrshire and Red sires on NM$ on the US Ayrshire base ... if he was available he would be #26 of available sires !!!!

Just a quick glance, on bulls that actually have semen available (in the US anyway), he'd be right around #10.

I told the bull today that he just may have his date with the butcher delayed for some time emoticon

On the CDCB list of available bulls in the US he'd be #21. Don't know how up to date on availability this list is.

A fair amount of the bulls on the list don't have available semen in the US anyway. I don't think they really update it as bulls become unavailable.

Re: Can/US Ayrshire Genomics

Our first two results from the September run:

A Buckarby with NM$ 652 and 0 Type
A Cigar with NM$ 603 and 0.5 Type

Its the Cigar that we are particularly excited about as he has a great all round proof with one of the highest PTATs of the top NM bulls (all but 9 out of the top 25 NM Ayrshire/Red sires are negative on type - R Ascona is the highest as +0.6, but he's 50% Holstein and would seem a bit old to be still available?). He's undergoing his testing for entry onto an export stud.

Looks like you came out pretty well. What are the sire stacks and the production breakouts?

I still have two sample cards sitting here, haven't really had any testable Red calves born in a while.
