Advent's dam: Skyhigh Facet Avid VG87-3y. She's now just fresh with her 3rd (an R Fastrup heifer)and will hopefully go EX ... she's one of the best uddered Reds I've seen

We are over the moon with the December proof run!

We have two POLLED Tangvoll sons at Net Merit +$642 and +$632 !!! when they are released next spring they will be the #2 and #3 Net Merit polled sires on the Red list !!!! Only Eggtroen is higher of polled bulls (+$686).

They both have much higher type than either Eggtroen (-1.5) or their sire Tangvoll being 0.1 and 0 respectively.

Also have another VR Cigar over $500 with +0.4 type.

Sigurd went down a little bit to $634 net merit. Fat and protein percents were both down by .02 and PL was down a tenth. Still haven't had him collected yet. Been pinching my pennies lately. If I knew his semen would sell I'd take him to Hawkeye in a heartbeat but investing several thousand dollars to get him available is a little dicey at the moment.

The Tangvoll X Royal Treble heifer I have is at $628 net merit. Royal Treble is a pretty big blight in the pedigree to me though. His daughters have not been good here. This particular heifer's dam was probably my best one but she fizzled out in third lactation and is now gone. Others have been lucky to make it through two.

Got a few heifers I should draw blood on. A Donato X Sand X Lars and a Donato x Velsvik X Bost (Ayrshire). I'm wondering if some of these Donato daughters could surpass $700 net merit.

Tangvoll progeny seem to be testing really well considering he himself has dropped to $446 NM. The dam of our Tangvoll bulls (that are nearly $200 NM above their sire) also has an R Fastrup (NM $697)daughter that'll be nice to test.

Donato progeny should be interesting. We are about to do some matings to VR Fastrup Fenton (NM +$865) and Skjelvan (NM +$823) that could produce some interesting calves for next year....

Looking over my duelist for my little Red herd I have 3 Donato pregnancies, 1 Pell Pers, and 1 Skjelvan.

We just whirled through 40 units of Skjelvan, should have 15-20 pregnancies total when we get them all checked (just the one Red, the rest are crossbred).

Dalton ($800 NM) and Gopollen ($823 NM Braut son) are next up, will probably use a little of both on 5 Reds that will be ready to breed soon.

Re: Re:

I had missed that Gopollen was $823 NM as CDCB seem to have missed him out from both their available list and overall list.

As Gopollen is a Braut son, I am a little cautious of him for our purposes (selling semen/bulls) where Braut has been so heavily used for [sign in to see URL] then with a 3-way cross that is probably irrelevant.

And Gopollen's maternal grandsire is Peterslund. Another popular crossbreeding bull. Sensible mating on the surface as Braut and Peterslund complement each other quite well.

I usually don't get too excited about inbreeding my crossbreds a little bit though I'll probably avoid Gopollen on my Brauts and Peterslunds if I can help it.

I did find out the hard way that Peterslund X Peterslund is not a good combination emoticon
