I love nice type. But I simply cannot understand the fascination with Apple bloodlines. All the bulls have the worst combination of health traits imaginable.

What is the thought process that says, Apples Absolute Red, for instance, is worth the risk of that god awful cell count? Who needs cows that are almost guaranteed to be a permanent mastitis nightmare? Personally I find enough troubles on a daily basis without creating more for myself.

Love him or hate him, at least Goldwyn was a great source of low cells, decent daughter fertility, acceptable lifespan, average milk and excellent components.

When the dtr stillbirth is at 12.5 on Absolute, 1 out of 8 calves from his dtrs will be born doa due to poor genetic inheritance. Why not pick a good type bull and get anywhere from 3-6 more live calves out of 100 calvings. His average dtr is horrible on SCS, but to make an avg you will get some who are fine, and some who can't get out of their own way. -1712 of milk and you have to throw some away of what you do get, a little hard to see how you can make a profit milking them, no matter how good they look. As a whole our Talent dtrs liked to leak milk on a regular basis, maybe Absolute would work way better on robots than conventional systems with that milking speed.
