Showing heifers

We are hoping to show a couple of heifer calves this year, one will be 9 months old and the other a year old at the time of shows. I was wondering if any of you have any tips on how you would go about preparing for the shows as far as feeding is concerend. We are in the UK and have access to meadow hay and straw but no alfalfa (at least without a lot of hassle). What type of concentrates do you use, sugar beet? I see these heifers in the showring with some people and they look exceptionally big and full of rib with tremendous bloom. Im not one for the shows and im only preparing these calves for a friends children that want the experience. Thanks for any help guys.

High protein to grow, high fibre for depth, low energy so they don't get fat.
