In my opinion thanks to genomics the time of classifying is over. How will you generate the raw data for type without it? That's up to the bull studs to pay for it. For the farmer, even the farmer trying to sell higher genetic heifers I don't see the point of classifying. nondisclosed_email@example.com (bazza20)Mon, 30 May 2016 11:01:45 +0000 Re: Balancehttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443466,from=rss#post443466https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443466,from=rss#post443466Genomics is nothing without the raw data. Both type and production data. If you have no interest in type then classification is already irrelevant.nondisclosed_email@example.com (errolston)Mon, 30 May 2016 09:20:53 +0000 Re: Re:https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443465,from=rss#post443465https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443465,from=rss#post443465quote:bazza20 wrote: All it will do it is give the classifiers more wiggle room to upgrade those tall angular cows even higher and downgrade the shorter rounder cattle. Of the 9 vg 2 year olds this time 3 had gp feet and legs this won't affect bull poofs so what harm is it doing . A vg 2 year old also gives you a nice feeling a boost and at the moment the more people that get one IMO has to be a good thing. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Outside)Sun, 29 May 2016 19:45:02 +0000 Re:https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443461,from=rss#post443461https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443461,from=rss#post443461I may be wrong but I thought it was vg udder to become vg score.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Moorcastle)Sun, 29 May 2016 18:32:16 +0000 Re:https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443458,from=rss#post443458https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443458,from=rss#post443458I stopped classifying cows about 8 years ago or so and never regretted it. Waste of money if you don't merchandise cattle (which is hardly impossible in Holland if you're not in the genomics rat-race). nondisclosed_email@example.com (BlackCaviar)Sun, 29 May 2016 14:41:55 +0000 Re: Balancehttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443457,from=rss#post443457https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443457,from=rss#post443457As it was they had to be VG on legs to score 85 points anyway.Under the new system a heifer can now score GP 84 on legs and attain VG2yo, I think with the bred moving towards a more duarable animal a lot of really good heifers tend to be slightly rounder of the bone,so all in all I think this is a positive move by HUK. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Over the hill)Sun, 29 May 2016 11:46:34 +0000 Re: Balancehttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443456,from=rss#post443456https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443456,from=rss#post443456I wouldn't be in favour of it because it would be a subjective trait that allowed the classifier way too much wiggle room to do what they wanted with the final score. I assume you are based in the UK. What do you think of HUKI's very recent decision to drop the requirement for a two year old to have VG legs for it to score 85 or higher? Madness in my opinion. I thought UK classification had become very consistent in the last few years. One of the reasons for this, I think, is the emphasis that has been placed on feet and legs, especially in two year olds. For my money it had made classification seem much more relevant as the classifers have been doing an excellent job in assessing locomotion and leg structure.nondisclosed_email@example.com (errolston)Sun, 29 May 2016 10:54:08 +0000 Balancehttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443454,from=rss#post443454https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443454,from=rss#post443454I have been thinking lately about classification and was wondering what peoples views would be if a trait was introduced that scored for overall balance When 2 animals are scored their linears can be very similar yet to look at there can be a big difference in them very often this is down to how well balanced the animals are! just wondering what everyone else thinks on this? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Over the hill)Sun, 29 May 2016 10:04:36 +0000
