I was debating buying some Duke or Missle, Jedi is bit too expensive. We just ordered some Duke sexed. Used Missle as a test sire. Our oldest Mogul has calved for a third time at 3 years 9 monthes, just scored 88 points and has only seen three straws of semen in her life. Never a high cell count either. In all we have had 5 moguls calve and had one dud in the group.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Glenlodge)Sat, 07 Jan 2017 00:44:11 +0000 Re:https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443790,from=rss#post443790https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443790,from=rss#post443790What Montross son do people like? The MOM has never had a case of mastitis or been a problem breeder. I bought my other Mogul and it's mother had ten calves. I assume the mother was never a big problem for mastitis or fertility or she likely wouldn't have stuck around that long.nondisclosed_email@example.com (errolston)Thu, 29 Dec 2016 06:28:13 +0000 Re: Montrosshttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443770,from=rss#post443770https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443770,from=rss#post443770We have 2 milking Moguls and 15 more due within the next year , we have no problems with them one has a scc of 26 and 38 which I thought was ok. They are all cows that have problems with Mastitis and they are all difficult to get in calf. Not exactly the kind of cows I like to milk. The genomic system is a totally self fulfilling prophecy. Take a look at Mogul's pedigree. It is full of bulls that were rubbish: Bolton, Pasen Marsh, Dixie-Lee Aaron, Luke, Bellwood, Mascot. His poor health traits shouldn't be a surprise. Holstein International had a breeder's round table interview earlier in the year where they interviewed Sandy-Valley, Pine-Tree and No-Fla amongst others. In the interview Greg Bauer stated that if he ran a commercial herd that he would probably use 100% proven bulls because of the consistent disappointment with the SCC, DPR and Sire Calving Ease predictions of genomic bulls. He went on to say that he studies the pedigree of genomic bulls now to try and predict where a bull will end up for the 3 traits he was frustrated with. nondisclosed_email@example.com (errolston)Thu, 22 Dec 2016 22:16:44 +0000 Re: Montrosshttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443764,from=rss#post443764https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443764,from=rss#post443764Mogul overrated errolston?
