That being said, she was still 33,000 pounds over herd average which is impressive anyway you look at it. I think it's important to mate cows in a way that fixes faults. I also think that index can help sort out the best bulls for production and health traits but only within a generation. I think some of the older bulls will make daughters that milk but they don't get credit for it because of so many rollbacks in the numbers. I'm excited for the next few years because I will be able to hopefully see how they match up better in our own herd. I have been putting in old embryos and using older semen while cleaning out the semen tank and we have almost breeding age Astro Jet, Rudolph and Encore daughters and heifer calves coming by Skychief out of Lana Rae's VG88 Raider sister. We also have pregnancies to Raider and Encore and about 10-15 racks of older bulls to use.nondisclosed_email@example.com (mitchmast)Sat, 11 Feb 2017 16:43:10 +0000 Re:https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443818,from=rss#post443818https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443818,from=rss#post443818I did a calculation for those of us who prefer to metric. That's about 35218kgs - 96.5 kg's of milk a day @ 2.6%P (905kg) and 2.7%F (934kg). Not a great cow for those of us getting stung for volume and paid for kgs of solids. In relation to GTPI - there is little information on the environment she is in when compared to other animals. http://www.dairyherd.com/news/industry/new-national-milk-production-record-set nondisclosed_email@example.com (Craigalea)Mon, 30 Jan 2017 22:47:32 +0000 National Production Recordhttps://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443817,from=rss#post443817https://bcowtalk.runboard.com/p443817,from=rss#post443817Saw news that Ever-Green View My Gold-ET has just set a new national production record in the United States with 77,480 pounds of milk in 365 days. She is also classified EX-93 with an EX-95 Mammary system. Her mother was a former national production record holder Ever-Green-View My 1326-ET (EX-92). The My 1326 cow has a GTPI of 1416. So a national record holder is the mother of another national record holder in spite of only being 1416GTPI. Does this say anything to anyone else about being a little too overzealous with only mating for high GTPI on high GTPI? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Escocito)Mon, 30 Jan 2017 21:55:50 +0000
