Galwaybay Sale

THe Dispersal of the Galwaybay herd in Ireland takes place this Saturday, lots of great lots (unfortunately I don't have a catalogue yet) and great cows up for sale. One lot that really takes my interest is the cow - Grasshill Lindy Roxy EX92 - I think she is coming in June to Astronomical with her 6th calf and her pedigree reads - Lindy X Roxy Belle GP (Southwind) X Tony Roxy GP (ME Tony) X A Mil-R-Mor Roxette EX. My question here is does the 2 GP scores affect the value of this cow much, and what is an EX cow from a world renowned cow family worth considering she will shortly be in her 6th lact. THe only yield record I could find for her on HUK website is her 1st - 12,548KgM 4.22%BF 3.27%Ptn. Have a go at predicting the price and I'll let you know on Monday!!

Re: Galwaybay Sale

I think it has to effect her value. Whoever buys her will always have those two GP's in the back pedigree. She would sure to be worth more, to sell progeny from, if she was from seven gens of excellent.
That is not to say she won't become a great breeding cow and carry on the Roxy family to great things. What has she bred so far?
I reckon her price will depend on how she looks on the day. Could be anything from 800E - 3000E.

yep, being sent!! The beauty of not working at home means I get sent on errands to check out sales as apparently i have more time to spare!!! Not going with the intention of spending but you gotta keep an open mind. I forgot to mention that the Lindy Roxy has been successfully shown here in Ireland but if she makes €800 she'll have a new home at Inishowen Holsteins. I was underbidder on Rossbridge Lee Sara when Galwaybay bought her, I hear she looks interesting skybrook??

skybrook, seeing as you have a catalogue maybe you could answer bobs question as to what the Lindy Roxy has bred. She has a long list of progeny on the HUK website but ever since the IHFA branched out on its own the info stopped being updated so the progeny listed don't have their classifications on there.

I am not suggesting she is most likely to only make cull price. I am saying her price will depend on how she looks on the day.

Re: Galwaybay Sale

I reckon that's a difficult cow to buy.

Firstly the two GP's in the pedigree. Although the Roxy's are a good consistant family this particular line do seem a bit variable looking on the Holstein Canada site. Could be this cow is a return to form, could be she's the exception and will breed back to GP's.

Secondly her age and stage of pregnancy. I bet she makes a price that says she'll have a heifer calf, rather than one that says equal chance of a bull. I think its easier to buy older cows either short served or open.
