Re: £40,000
i don't know about that
is a cow really worth that much?
i mean, yeah obviously she is an excellent cow, but 40k for something that you only get milk out of, with current prices how long will it take to pay herself off. At least 2-3yrs before her first daughters come through to milk and what if they no good. Surely there are other cows out there that are just as good at more affordable price.

Re: £40,000
Paul Rawcliffe retained a half share, so it only cost Liz £20000 and she had a rudolph alve on monday nite!! Alredy paying for herself! Whenu buy any kind of stock there is always a risk that u could lose money on it, but your intention is to make money! Speculate to accumulate and all that!

Re: £40,000
Mmm its a LOT of dosh, I suppose you just wouldnt need to be relying on the money to keep you in your house n farm! Some big money investments make HUGGEEEE money back but its a real pain in the butt if they dont flush!!Weve found that out!
Will: Your herd has brilliant milk quality!!You aim to breed for that?
Sperrin: How yous things your end? Nethin wild at all with you? Hows your wee Barbie doin?

Re: £40,000
Derek Cooper paid 33,000 gns for Wiseburow Roland Pamela about 10 years ago. She did flush like a chicken and he certainly made good money from her. She was sold on for 7500 gns, and one daughter made 13,000 gns, plus many more at around the 5000 mark, so it can be done.
It does seem at the moment there is a will to pay very big money for these top show cows. Its definitely a risk I wouldn't want to take. You certainly wouldn't want to do it on borrowed money.
--- 65 cows - 9500 litres @ 3.8 fat, 3.25 protein. 25 VG, 4 EX
Also rear surplus dairy heifers + beef stores.
Simple system, grass based, no TMR. No full time labour.

or any money. could buy a decent second hand tractor, or a heap of good cows for that much. Even 20k is a heap
oh and by the way how much would that convert to in AU$
don't worry found it
refrase the above, NEW Tractor or 2
with some good cows
could even build 3/4 of a new computerised dairy
