Re: Cow Makers v Cow Enhancers in RED!!!!!!

We once had an old cow have twin bulls by Luke, one mostly black, one extremely white - i commented to our neighbour (a beef finisher who usually bought our surplus bull calves) that we might keep the black one for a stock/sweeper bull, his comment was 'yeah, more Holstein in the white fella i wouldn't like him at all!!'. I didn't make him any the wiser!!! emoticon

given that ayrshires have red/black markings are blackred holsteins (like inspirations) really ayrshires?

I've seen a lot of Ayrshires but never a black one. Can't buy into this theory.

I have seen ayrshires with black spotty noses. There are also plenty of ayrshires around that have like a black edge between the red and the white hair. Also have seen some with black eyelids. So there if there is black skin pigmentation then it is possible to have black hair.

Ja-bob Jordan RED has added a lot of daughters this time and maintained his proof very well. What does the panel think of this bull? I think Genus sell him in the UK, but he looks like the sort of bull we should be getting sons from with his high type ranking and high componants?

Used him on a couple of red/rc cows, looks fairly useable in small amounts. He aint the minimum 650kg milk/45kg fat and protein bull that I would use on the majority of my cows.
