Red vs. Black

Do you all feel that the Reds can't compeat with the Black and whites in the big time shows head to head? My red redmarker got 5th at the show only red in the class, everything in the class was 2 to 3 inches taller, now I'm debating takeing her to madison. She has a great frame, Dairyness, feet and legs just smaller then the huge black and whites. Are the reds normaly smaller then the Black and whites?

Re: Red vs. Black

wouldnt say all reds are smaller than blacks.it all depends on the judge. A "little" black cow stood 3rd last year in the 5yo in milk. She is 95 points but when you looked at the placings photo she was 2-3 inches shorter than those either side.
However it is worth going to madison just to be seen. this cow stood 4th in the 4yo the previous year and was liked enuf to be contracted for australia and europe. The owner said he told "the cattle connection" that you didnt need to actually show at madison just have a team of nice cows tied up in the stalls is enuf to do some really good marketing. So I would take her if she is competitive as an enormous number of international visitors come thru and you have to be there to be SEEN.

At our National this year the junior Champion Red Holstein easily could have won the junior B&W Holstein Championship if they had been judged together.

Some reds can compete against blacks lets not forget about scarlet only red Royal champion ever and beat Charity doing so. she was the only cow in Canada to do that.
Sorry Canuk my mistake

Re: Red vs. Black

I dont belive many red cows cant compete with the black and whites because of the lack of genes to play with.Red blood is so close u are close breeding *** the time and dont make much progress in type traits.
I think the only way to make a good red cow is time and effort a red bull on a red cow will be red but if it has no type it is useless. An example of my red breeding program:
Triple Threat rc X Durham x ***en X Kite rc

I think this type of approuch will yeild good red ones with type and production if the middle crosses are red carriers.

Turtle - Scarlett never beat Roxy, think you mean she was the only cow to beat Charity.
Mark - have noticed every time the letters a,l,l are together it gets put into those little stars.
As for red vs black, isn't this one of the biggest reasons why reds have become so popular, so they DON'T HAVE TO COMPETE with the blacks?
