Red Ears
Had a Red Marker bull born yesterday that was black and white, with Red Ears. Would this signify a red carrier?

Re: Red Ears
I had a heifer calf born that was b&w with red spots on the ears (she was out of a raider out of a renegade by our encore bull that was out of the red inspiration dream cow who was out of a triple threat)so I registered her as black/red

Re: Red Ears
I need to clarify that there is no other Red in the pedigree for 8 generations, back to Coldsprings Elevation Fagin.

Re: Red Ears
I wouldnt think so. We have had black and white cow with light colored ears. Is it that the skin is light or the hair is red?

Re: Red Ears
BB _ I am not 100 % certain, but it sounds to me like it is from the Black/Red gene. This is different from the Red gene and is what you find in current bulls like Storm, Charles, etc. Many of these calves will be born red but turn mostly black. You can tell if they will turn by wether or not there is black around the eyes when born. If the eyes are black, they will turn more black.

Re: Red Ears
There is no black/red gene in the pedigree.
He is a beefer anyway. I was just curious.

Re: Red Ears
yes that is the same dream cow! we have linjet and triple threat embryos to go in soon out of her.So far she has 29 progeny registared and only 7 were bulls. Her encore son dreamer so far appears to be throwing nearly all heifers.(we have a philosophy of trying to use bulls or only buying animals that have a much greater % of female to male progeny as we think that it helps the heifer % along).YES I know the expert genesists say it is sperm that determins sex but we have many examples here where females dominate over males in cowfamilies.

Re: Red Ears
Red ears is good mark for red or black red carrier. But I can not recommend register BR or RC only from this mark. This si too danger to put mistake in pedigree.
To be sure, You need DNA test.

Re: Red Ears
I have to disagree. Red ears signify nothing at all. I have seen many black animals that are simply brownish.
