International Visitors

I see that quite a few of you guys get around the world some, and many more have visitors from around the world. Lets get some good stories about visitors.

Two years ago we had a visitor from the Congo, who was touring many industries in our area. He asked the mayor of the town nearby where he could see a modern dairy farm. They sent him our way. He called ahead, and we made sure he wasn't a FMD risk. He came out a gave things the once over and was amazed at the size of our cows. He saw a 57 incher up close, and said that is the biggest cow I have ever seen! Just then a 64 inch cow walked by and he looked like he had seen a ghost. Then he found out we have a manure waste lagoon. He was so fascinated that he spent an hour and a half talking manure. He was interested in using manure to make electricity and heat stoves. He was absolutely fascinated.

Japanese buyers looking for some common cows came in once and didn't like any of our cows because the cows' eyelashes were too long.

French visitors from a university mocked me once because I don't make my own cheese. Arrogant twerps. Their tour was cut short.

Whether its type or index the bottom line is that all must milk.

Thats how you handle the French Buckeye, classic stuff!!!!
We did have an American student come to work for 3 months and she only stayed 2 weeks, she expected every farm in Ireland to have a few pigs, a few hens, a few ducks, a donkey, a couple of goats, you get the picture. Anyhow she spent one day trying to convince my father that he should try crossbreeding some of the holsteins with beef breeds to see how they would milk.....we found her a place in an irish ag. college to finish her work placement!!!
We also had another American student before this who was a first class student, one of the best we ever had.
Prior to the first american student we had a german girl come for 3 months ag. placement and her family kept sending over boxes of second hand clothes and toys as they thought all irish families were living on the breadline, even though their daughter kept telling them not to!!! The local Salvo Army shop was never as well stocked!!
We also had a couple of kids from Kenya stay for a weekend, they were part of a childrens church choir and were coming to sing in our church. Anyhow they were up half an hour earlier than anyone else in our house because they were so excited about seeing the cows being milked. And when they saw one of the cows running the milk in the parlour they went mental jumping and shouting, not sure what the cows thought of the whole situation.
