Re: The farmer wants...
When I was single in noisy pubs and clubs, I would tell girls I was a farmer. Many, many times I got mis-heard and they thought I was a FIREMAN. At this point, don't enlighten them until they get to know you better. This worked well on several occasions.
--- 65 cows - 9500 litres @ 3.8 fat, 3.25 protein. 25 VG, 4 EX
Also rear surplus dairy heifers + beef stores.
Simple system, grass based, no TMR. No full time labour.

Re: The farmer wants...
i think paris hilton suffers from the rich kid syndrom(too much money and too little to do).
I personally dont consider farming dirty work having worked in the sheep/cattle /cropping side of things since I was 18.many of my female friends would agree with me . our vet clinic only has female large animal vets and they do a good job.
in this country i resent the attitude that if you are a farmer you are automatically rich.something to do with the perceived notion that he who owns land has money!!!

Re: The farmer wants...
That seems to be a worldwide view foxleigh!
I know in the UK we're probably partly to blame because in the 80's and early 90's, when we were in hindsight "on the pigs back" we complained about not getting enough!
Now when we REALLY aren't getting anywhere near enough, we get no sympathy. Non land-owners (Townies) simply think that we should just sell off a bit of land, but they don't understand what it is to own land, land which has been in your family for 100's of years. I could continue my rant, but I'll stop now!!!

Re: The farmer wants...
You guys are really funny!!!
I can see the problem. So sperm are just the vessel of transport. Try leaving them out and just say, 'I work in the genetics distribution industry,' and see if that works.
Townies here seem to see all farmers as welly boot wearing (entirely true!) wastes of time that spend their day leaning over a field gate, chewing a stem of grass. Now, there are still a few of those around (amazingly), but they are fast disappearing.
A girl wants to know you are clever and well informed, but when you explain how you have very good knowledge of the hormonal interactions of the oestrous cycle and cyclicity problems, they begin to get uncomfortable. :uo
Also try explaining that there is a distinct difference between cost-cutting and being miserly. :look
Oh, and can you convince them that while you may be worth a large sum, you don't have a dispensible penny? 2

You farm in a different way than me then Joe.
Round here tractors, equipment and most of the cows are regarded as liabilities.
