We work in a intl. Christian drug and alcohol rehab center. We have over 4000 mostly young people interned all over Spain and aprox. 2000 more in other countries all over the world. One of our many group homes is a small dairy farm we started 9 yrs. ago with 3 cows.We are now milking 25 cows one of them being an EX. and 6 VG.We've built the farm up on a shoe string budget without any govt.subsidies or any financial assistance from religious orgs. Our organization is almost 100% self financed by multiple small business' run and managed by the interns and rehabilitated substance abusers.

Showing cattle seems to fit in very well in our programs of therapy and rehabilitation.Over the last 7 yrs. we have hardly missed one of the multiple small local shows(often just showing 2 or 3 calves)here in Cantabria Spain nor have we missed any of the nationals in the last 5 yrs.

One individual cow we bred (RETO DARLIN RED MARKER)has been a consistant winner in the show ring since a young calf. The two high lights of her career were in - March 2003 at Verona Italy's international dairy show winning the milking jr. two year old class. Now in May of this year as a 3 year old winning grand champion at Semana Verde Internation Dairy Show here in Galicia Spain with Ken Empy as judge. She competed against some real stiff competition ,cows imported from France, Holland and Canada. We were disapointed that Holsten International didn't mention anything when it seems they mentioned the results of the show in years past. Most breeders in Spain consider it a higher quality show than the Spanish spring national. These were real special moments (amongst others) for our guys who are rebuilding their shatterd lives by the Grace of God expressed in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I hope to get some photos of our show cow and her dam on line soon. We are planning some flushings and would really like your input and suggestions.

Re: Show Results

Just had our local show on Saturday past. Its a small affair with just 4 breeders showing every year, but the quality is usually fairly good. We had five animals with us and got 1 first and 4 seconds, including Champion heifer and Hon. Mention in the Overall Championship with our Senior in Milk cow. Can't say too much about the judging seeing as a cowtalkers old man was the judge!!! (haven't heard from Kenny in a long time, but your Da did a good job though i wouldn't swap my senior cow for the champ or reserve!!!!). A lee 2nd calver was the Overall Champ with a 3rd calf Jed taking Reserve. Our Champion Heifer was by Kregnol Mandel S-Man a bull that has worked really well for us.
