But Charity, where did skybrook mention he was trying to create a future "BIG Show Cow"

I don't know if the grandam Clovermist Black Peach was considered show material?

He did not but if u do not breed for a show cow basicaly it will take longer to get one if u dont.Astronomical is a perfect cross for Allen i can not see why it would be a bad cross.Maybe u could use Terrason on the Astronomical for great results.

Re: ALLEN FLUSH

Peach went back to same cow family as Golden Oaks Mark Prudence. She (Peach) wasn't very big. I have an Airliner out of her which is a little bigger but looking at website it seems I got the worst of the three born in the UK.

Most of the Mandels out of Peach did real well here in the UK. In fact so far in UK she has 14 Vg daughters and 6Ex by various bulls (5 by Mandel).

I can't think we can predict what sort of weaknesses need protecting in this heifer. Allen is pretty well balanced. Mandel had his problems but maybe sandwiched between Blackstar and Allen from this family they would sort themselves out. Allen is a constructor so why not use a dairy refiner for this generation?

I see your Allen has two Ex sisters by Wade and and robthom Malachite. The Mandel at Overside also has an Ex Wade daughter and an Escott one has a VG Wade.

I don't know if that tells us anything or not but maybe a Wade son like Best might suit the family. Do you have the Mandel mother from Bricknell or just the Allen daughter?

I agree with Allen x Astronomical, it should work, and it should work well, I don't see where Astronomicals udder problems are all that bad, where it really counts is med sus, and texture, and he is good there, 80% G.P and better, and 25 V.Gs already, how bad can his udders be?
and with nearly 11,000kgs ME, your only 300kgs behind, if you had of used Freelance, but no your not likely to interest the A.Is, because the Freelances will look much better on paper. Or if you want a real milk bull use Inquirer, he has whopping 500kgs more milk than Astronomical, and your chances of getting a F. or worse are 3-1.

I once read an article by a famous breeder in the 80"s.He said if u want to breed show cows (like Blackrose Ashlyn for example) then the fastest way to do this is use there best sons.So basicaly if u would not have a bulls mother in your barn dont use the bull.

Charity, while we're on the subject of bulls from great show cows, whats your take on a Progress son of Blackrose?

I did not remember she had a Progress son.Progress has made some great sons that were never put back into AI so i think this one will have a good chance if he is out of Blackrose.A Progress son that is catching my eye is Dupasquier Carrousel Milton Progress x Broker Mandy. Also 2 other bulls that look real good are Oconnors Lucan and Sunnylodge Scorpio.

How about Outside?????? If you want to breed a cow for your herd and to improve on the loin are and perhaps straighten up her legset a little, he'd probably be a good cross.
