Welcome!

The purpose of this forum is to introduce yourself and maybe give some back ground info. It can be useful to know where people are coming from when they are discussing topics, i.e. age, experience, occupation where you are from etc.
Real names are not necessary; your user name will suffice.

It is not compulsory to post here and if you do you can give as much or as little information as you want.

For the benefit of new members (and others that don't know) my name is Mark Day and I created cowtalk about four years ago.

I farm in partnership with my parents in the North East of England and we currently milk 185 pedigree Holsteins plus followers. I have worked at home since leaving school at 15 and also spent two years working part time as a "farmer ambassador" for Cogent. I am married with four children.

:IR: Hi All. Totally new to this. Fairly sad to say but this is the first chat area i've ever beeen a member of. All to talk about females of the bovine variety!! Seriously though, I'm farming in the south east of Ireland milking about 90 holsteins. I'm 32, married with 2 kids. I came home to farm in partnership with my DAd in 1992. Started using holstein onto a british friesian base as a means of lifting yields as we have a contract to supply milk all year round. In the past few years we have looked towards raising the profile of the herd by buying in a few decent pedigrees. Some live animals and imported some embryos from Canada. Its still very much a work in progress though!!

Welcome!

New and not finding my way around very well! I milk about 40 S A Reds and a few Holsteins. We are building a red breed in SA mainly with Swedish Red genetics. I work with children, teaching them about cattle (they are mostly city kids) and they attend Youth Shows. Also help Emerging Farmers where and when I can. Import Swedish Semen for distribution in this country. Love cows and want to talk about them!

Re: Welcome!

my name is Tommy Ingemarsson and I live on a one million acre Island in the middle of the Baltic sea.
farm 300 hectars and milk 100 cows but will bail out of this business in about 6 months which means a 27 year "stint" as a dairy farmer comes to an end.
probably will stay on here though, couldn't do without a good argument from time to time
as well as a good laugh now and again and this is just the place for it.
