New PLI
Thought you may be interested in the new Productive Life Index PLI formula:-
£PLI = £PIN (-0.04xmilk + 1.1xFat kgs +2.9 xPr kgs)+
32 x Lifespan(0.898xF&L +0.0188xUdd Comp +SCC x-0.0051
+ SCC +-0.20
+ Locomotion (or F&L for imports) x1.30
This means the difference between the PIN and PLI is calculated using Lifespan which is made up of F&L,Udd Comp and SCC added to another dollop of SCS and F&Leg.
Udder composite has an extremely small weighting with a +2.00 Udder comp bull only getting 1.2 added to his PLI.
Whereas a +2 F&L sire will get 8.4 added to his PLI and similarly a -15 SCS will get 5.45 added to his PLI.
however if a bull has reliabilty for Lifespan which is low he will get a zero rating for Lifespan part of index.
Hope this helps.

Re: New PLI
To simplify matters on imported bulls:-
For each point of F&L, udder or SCS the PLI will go higher or lower than £PIN by the following amount:-
1pt F&L = 4.2 £PLI points
1pt UC = 0.6 £PLI points
-1pt SCS = 0.36 £PLI points
Another difference between bulls with UK proofs and imports is that UK bulls will use locomotion at end of index rather than F&L and will also include a score for fore udder within the lifespan sector. Don't know if this is advantage or disadvantage - depends if they are good on fore udder or locomotion I guess.
