Customer Survey

We have stocks of one CVM sire and have access to another. We are against widespread use of CVM sires BUT if there are exceptional breed leading sires that we could make a available, is it morally right or wrong to put them on the market provided all potential customers are made aware of problem?

I know Cogent and Genus face same dilemma. And much cvm semen is currently being sold en masse into commercial herds without clear warnings. Sometimes, on finding customers using cvm sires, we ask if they realise they have cvm to hear a reply, "what is cvm?"
Clearly these salesmen skipped over the cvm issue.

I know that due to slump in world demand on CVM sires, they would be considerably cheaper than non cvm alternatives of same standard.

Here is one such sire available to us:-Careca. Click on the link.

Top bull on this list of top production (TOP)sires is Careca- a massive fat and protein sire with a decent linear. Click on his name for his linear.Nothing else in the breed can give us this level of percents with a half decent linear.

What to do for the best?

Re: Customer Survey

Bob, if there is a country in the world that would have most CVM problems it is probably the Netherlands. HG is trying to keep the number of CVM bulls on the bull card as low as possible, but sometimes there is just this exceptional sire. So we give the farmers the choice to use them or not. Every single farmer here is well aware of the CVM problem. Currently the only CV+ bull on the list is Katshaar Kirby. When he first came out he was on pre-order (all other bulls are freely available) and still managed to get into the top 10 of most used bulls.

I think people should be able to use what they want and as long as you tell them the truth they are well capable of making their own decisions.
