Productive Life
Longevity was mentioned in another post.
There are a couple of prize winners at -7.00 PL and -6.6 PL, both were in AI. Can you guess who their sire was?
Minus seven is the bottom of the pile
Hint..he was a beautiful bull, scored EX(96)

Re: Productive Life
OK Ron, whats your point? Looked up Dairbulls.com and seen that a Duster x Ethan is top and some obscure names I have never heard of by Pat Posch and Highboy are bottom.
I guess these extremes will have definitely earned there high or low scores by now.
I don't like bulls earning high productive life scores and climbing or dropping 100 places on TPI just because of who they are by? Let them earn it first by at least completing first lactation and maybe starting the second?
Remember 45 TPI points = 1 point PL

Re: Productive Life
The first word in TPI is Type. People want type, production and longevity.
When I was Garret's age(16 or17)at Indies View, TYPE was all that mattered to me. That's all I bred for.
Gray View Crisscross was EX(96)GM,still the current All-Time All-American Aged bull.I paid $200 to breed my Excellent ABC gr.dtr to him back in the 60's. Great type, great pedigree ,great cow family. One problem they didn't milk.
Two of his AI sons Wondercross -5,279PDM,-7.00PL and Lucross -4690PDM -6.6PL are at the BOTTOM of the productive life ranks for the same reason, they didn't sire milk and the dtrs were culled in the 1st lactation.
Whether your a bull stud or breeder our customer is the dairyman that milks cows for a living. High component milk comes first, then functional type, which usually yields longevity.

Re: Productive Life
When i worked for MMB we had a bull by Greyview Criss Cross called Linmack. High componants but very little milk. They were a bit crazy too. Anyway he and his sons made up the backbone of UK AI industry for a good few years. Semen went all over the world . I seem to remember he did well in Australia.
I also see the high ranking, now dead, Bellwood son from Italy called Ceresio BW Bormio originates from the Greyview Criss Cross cow family. That bull is very milky.
