Had a recip abort at 7 mos. The wierd thing is there were twin heifers. The egg must have split. Has anyone seen this?

Re: Split Embryo

I had heard that lower quality eggs like lower quality twos, and threes do this more often. My neighbor was the dumping ground for alot of frozen #3's from Select Embryos. He had two times where the egg split. Twin Heifers of course, both times.

I will ask my ET vet about this next week when he is in.

They were #2 that came with the a cow that I got at the Summer event. Realy sucks. If they would have been in a cow she might have took them full term

We had a Blackstar daughter of Wiseburrow Roland Pamela 2 that was the result of the ET team deliberately splitting an embryo before implantation. Both eggs went on to produce live heifer calves.

Re: Split Embryo

this has happened to me twice, and heifers both times. As for spilting them before implantation, tend to get more males. They will only spilt a real good egg, so this theory of B & C grade embryos having a better chance of producing heifers, appears to be a good one.

I have noticed in our ET experience that the number 2 and 3 embryos do produce more heifers and agree with the theory.

We had a Grade 1 split naturally ended up with 2 bulls, i also notice that poorer quality embryos have a higher chance of resulting in a heifer
