Re: Too much of a good thing ?
Just as well for me, Simon, that they also milk Lukes, Aarons, Formations, Sharks, Lord Lilys, Addisons, Principals, Skychiefs, Heralds, Ronalds, Figaros, Luckys, only one Lee (thank God), Charles, Fatals, Basars, Sams, Celsius, Wades...... pant....pant....
I am fortunate they are fairly versatile!
Variety is the spice of life.
PS You must resist the dark side, though it may be powerful. And someday you too may become a Jedi Knight.

Thank-you FOA4 for taking this with the humour with which it was meant!!
I think that the force has already got me!!

Re: Too much of a good thing ?
Headaches? :mad
The mechanics near the cow are covered with stainless steel, which needless to say, hurts the cow more than the machine. They soon learn. Silicone hoses from arm to cup are destructable. These are the only parts I have seen giving way to violence. And that is bad luck like the parlour. The only animal that kicks is the occasional new heifer, and that lasts no more than half a dozen milkings, usually less. Again, as with parlours, running them through the system pre-calving, and a wee bit of handling limits the damage.

Re: Too much of a good thing ?
Are you trying to get me bashed by the Canadian type supporters club again?
Ok then. I'll risk it.
The lee is another backstep from her mother. Dam was a milky VG85 2yr esquimau. Lee reduced size and strength, milk and good nature. She does look quite pretty, as with many Canadian cattle, but that won't take her far on my farm.
This may or may not be representative of Lee daughters, subject to terms and conditions. FOA4 is an equal opportunities employer of dairy cattle.

Re: Too much of a good thing ?
Yes FOAF apparently this fellow Kirt Sloan, from Saem, Oregon has been seeing the very thing you origonally brought up on cowtalk.
Says he is a former dairyman now employed by a major dairy equipment company. To sum up his idea to fix, he would like to see rear teat placement evaluated as a separate trait, to see them on the bottom of the udder, and pointed straight down.
